Examine the musical phenomenon that was The Beatles, in the city where it all began
A unique opportunity for a short study program in the City of Liverpool, home of The Beatles. A brand new, innovative program, available exclusively through Select Travel Study.
The course examines the significance of the music of The Beatles within the context of society, changing social values, the world events and influences which propelled 4 lads from Liverpool to a world phenomenon, the likes of which had never been seen before. The central focus will be an academic understanding of the worlds in which The Beatles emerged and how those worlds were reflected though the creative presence of their music.

Day One
Depart U.S.
Overnight flight from US to Manchester.
DAY two
Arrive in Liverpool
Morning arrival into Manchester. Meet your Select Travel Study guide and private transfer to the hotel located in the heart of Liverpool. Unpack and relax and your guide will check everyone is settled comfortably and then conduct a brief orientation of the city. Time to rest and relax before gathering for an early evening dinner. We suggest retiring early to bed to best adjust to local time.
Day Three
The Beatles Story
Late morning walk from the hotel to The Beatles Story. Morning self-guided audio tour of The Beatles Story exhibition (approx. 90 minutes). Early afternoon meeting with the LHU faculty in the Education Centre for the introductory lecture. (approx. 2 hours). Evening group dinner at a local restaurant. Dinner is followed by a walking tour of the city’s current best venues featuring live music. We will hit several spots, some of which may inspire you to return for a longer visit later in the week.
Day Four
The Magical Mystery Tour
Morning lecture. Break for lunch. Afternoon private guided Magical Mystery Tour focusing on the some of the sights of the city associated with the early years of the Beatles but also other great musical talent of the time. The tour terminates at the famous Cavern Club which has been played by the elite of the music world including Queen, The Rolling Stones, Elton John, The Hollies, The Who, The Kinks and of course The Beatles who performed here 292 times. Live music is available daily, and students are welcome to remain at the Club at their leisure or explore the music clubs and restaurants around the area. It’s a 10 minute walk back to the hotel.
Day Five
Lennon and McCartney Childhood Homes
Morning lecture. Break for lunch. This afternoon we make a special private visit into the childhood homes of Paul McCartney and John Lennon. This is where the boys grew up, in economically challenged conditions and yet composed such classics as Please Please, I Call Your Name and She Loves You.
Day Six
Explore Liverpool
Morning lecture. Break for lunch. This afternoon, take one of our Liverpool walking tour offerings. They include subjects like Hidden Gems of the City, Hope St. and the 2 Cathedrals located on it, Art and Architecture of Liverpool, or a tour of Anfield, home of Liverpool F.C.
Day Seven
Liverpool at Leisure
Morning final lecture. Break for lunch. Afternoon at leisure for independent activities around the city. For those who are interested, in 2019 it will be possible to visit Strawberry Fields Salvation Army Community Centre. For John Lennon, Strawberry Fields provided a sanctuary from his turbulent childhood home life and became the inspiration for his iconic song. The new centre will now fulfill the same role in the life of today’s local children.
Tonight we gather for a farewell celebratory dinner together.
Day Eight
Return Home
Regrettably this morning we bid farewell to England and journey to Manchester for our return flight home.
